From an Idea …to a Building…to a Program…to You!
- 1970 The idea began to form.
- 1971 One coach and 15 female recreational gymnasts and tumblers began to train in the back yard and basement of the Rose Family home.
- 1972 The First Competitive Female team was formed. They trained out of the
basement at CKLW radio station and at St. Clair College. - 1975 Seven coaches and competitive athletes moved their training facility to a warehouse on Lauzon Road.
- 1976 They moved to a building on EC Row Expressway, where the male recreational program was added.
- 1976 Rose City Gymnastics – Non-Profit Organization was created with its first board of dedicated parents.
- 1980’s An athlete was honoured as the Kinsmen Sports Person of the Year.
- 1980 Special Needs athletes came from Northwood Public School.
- 1980 Peggy Cooper began coaching.
- 1983 Melanie Sylvestre named Best International Female Power Tumbler.
- 1983 Sarah Miller became the World Age Group Bronze Medallist and tumblers Michael Rosenberger and Justin Osbourne went to Cirque de Soleil.
- 1987 Rose City moved into its current home at 4365 Division Road.
- 1990’s Dan Lajoie and Ryan Lyons took Canada and the world by storm with their tumbling talents. Both ranked at various National and International Competitions including the World Power Tumbling Championships in South Africa.
- 2000 Saw many successful athletes at the Provincial level and the recreational programs grew.
- Present Day we have a strong team of coaches in place and we are looking forward to great things.
